At SYLC.it, we are committed to protecting the privacy of our users, and have developed this Privacy Policy to provide you with information about how we collect, use, disclose, and protect the personal information our users provide through the use of our website (www.sylc.it) and application programming interface (our “API”) collectively, the “sites,” and any information provided directly to our organization without the use of our Sites. This Privacy Policy is incorporated into and is part of our Terms of Use.
Collection and Use of Your Information
Information We Collect Directly from You
When visiting our sites, you may register in to provide us with your name and your email address in order to be able to complete a donation and receive information for current and future campaigns as long as promotional digital materials. You may also provide us with your name, email address, and, optionally, a phone number if you choose to contact us with a question or to provide us with feedback through our sites. We will use this information to assess your request and to contact you about it.
If you choose to donate to any campaign who registered in our sites, we will collect, use, and share your information in the following ways and as otherwise described under "How we share and disclose your information" below.
Donators
We collect the following information when you sign up for a donor account on our sites, donate to a campaign, or purchase or redeem any product or service offered by our sites:
Full name & email address: When you donate, we will create an internal account profile with your full name and email address so that we attribute current and future donations properly to you. We use this information to correspond with you regarding transactional activity, which may include confirmation emails, receipts, and updates on campaigns you have donated. We will also send you recommendations for campaigns to support according to your indicated interests, from which you can unsubscribe through your account.
Gift codes and donating pages: When you donate using a SYLC gift code, or in support of a donating page, we may share your full name with the entity or individual that funded the gift code, or who administers the donating page, respectively.
Promo Codes: When you donate using a promo code provided by one of our partners, we may share your full name with the partner who funded the promo code. We will also share your email address if needed to verify your eligibility for a promo code.
When we share your information with our partners, information will be governed by the partner’s privacy policy, which may differ from ours. Please refer to the privacy policies of respective corporate partners when using a company-issued promo code or gift code.
Donation & payment information: We use the payment information you enter to process transactions according to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. Credit card payments are processed by a third-party provider (currently Viva) and are governed by the third-party provider’s privacy policy and terms of service. Credit card information is never retained on our servers. If you choose to save your credit card information, the data will be held by the third-party provider and SYLC.it will store a corresponding anonymized token.
If you use PayPal, Amazon, Apple Pay, or a similar service, you will be subject to their terms of service and privacy policies, so we encourage you to review those policies carefully.
The amount of your donation will be shared with the SYLCer whose campaign you donated to. If you choose to donate through a third-party page, the donation amount will also be shared with the dashboard page of the administrator. In any case SYLC.it administration will always have access to date of any donation and will be able to edit, even delete any data of the donation.
Display name, location, & comments: When you donate, you will have the option to choose a name to be displayed next to your donation (unless you choose to make your donation anonymous). Your display name, location, and any comments you include shall be deemed to be public information, which means it is non-confidential and SYLC.it shall have no obligation of any kind with respect to it. This information may be publicly posted on the campaign page you have donated to.
SYLCers
We collect the following information when you sign up for a SYLCer account on our Sites and start a campaign. SYLCers who make donations will also be required to share the information listed under the “Donors” section above.
Full name, & id information: Publicly, we’ll use the display name you choose to share (for example, “Test Sport Club”) along with your full name, your logo, your category (if you are an a club, an athlete or special, possible the sport category and possible the location. This publicly displayed name will be treated as non-confidential and be used to identify your campaigns on SYLC.it and through any of our social media sharing tools.
We’ll use your full name to deliver resources to your attention when a campaign is fully funded and may share your full name to possible check if you are eligible to use SYLC.it platform or validate your data. If you indicate that you are a part of any professional affiliations or receive donations through a partner company’s, we may share your full name and your CRN or VAT with the professional organization in order to verify your affiliation or with the partner to ensure the proper use of their donation, respectively. These partners are only authorized to use this information for the purpose of verification.
Email address: We use your email address to set up your account, through which you can access SYLC.it services such as submitting a campaign and completing your profile. We also use it to correspond with you regarding your campaign and use of our sites, deliver a newsletter, and contact you about special opportunities. If you choose to participate in our referral program, your email address will be shared along with other account information with a third-party service to verify that the referral is genuine and to detect fraudulent referrals.
Phone number: When we’re not able to reach you by email, we will use your phone number to contact you about actions required for your campaign or your profile information. We may use pre-recorded messages and autodialed calls to reach you.
Thank-you material: After a campaign is fully funded, you may kindly ask to upload digital material relating to the funded campaign. That material is only shared with SYLC.it staff and those who supported the campaign. We require that you obtain prior written permission from the parent or legal guardian of each person for any photos that include images of athletes and present those permission slips to SYLC.it upon request at any time.
Optional Information for SYLCers
We may also collect the following information from you should you choose to share it with us.
Profile photo: Everyone has the option to submit a profile photo. SYLCers can also choose to submit a photo to represent their campaign. These photos are displayed to all site visitors/users and will appear beside the campaign when the campaign is shared using social media sharing tools. We require that you obtain prior, written permission from any person or brand showed to that photo and present those permission slips to SYLC.it upon request at any time.
Password: You can always log into your account through a link emailed to the email address we have on file, but you may also opt to set up a password for your account. We will never share your password, and you agree to not share it, too.
Mailing address (Donors only): We kindly ask for your mailing address in order either to use as mentioned above for promo services or in case you need more information on the donation receipt.
Imported Contacts: If you choose to connect to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Gmail, Yahoo, or other email services to share a campaign and authorize your contacts to be shared with us, we will use a third-party address book processing service, to collect the email addresses and names of the contacts you’d like to import. We only use this information to email your contacts a pre-populated message about the campaign you’re sharing. We'll remove these contacts within 24 hours of a successful email send.
Demographic and other information: We may use information such as your race, gender, the year you register and your address to opt you into specific funding opportunities. While this demographic information won’t be publicly listed on your account or campaigns, third parties may be able to infer it from the funding opportunities your C\campaigns qualify for. We may use this information to attract new donors, solicit additional donations from donors who focus their giving in certain areas or identify SYCLers to participate in SYLC.it events and other opportunities. In addition, we may use this information in aggregate for our own research purposes.
Birthday: We may wish you a happy birthday! For SYLCers, we may also post a note on your campaigns to let donors know it’s your birthday.
Information That We Automatically Collect During Your Visit
When you visit our sites, our web server automatically recognizes and collects your domain name and IP address. This allows us to deliver Campaigns specific to your location, to remember your preferences, or to pre-populate your information during checkout. We also keep track of how users arrive at our Sites (e.g., via a search engine) and the path of users through our sites. We also collect aggregate information about how our sites are used, derived mainly from tallying page views throughout our sites. This information helps us prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, and gauge how users respond to new features.
To gather and track this information, we use cookies. A cookie is a small data file sent from a website or application and stored on your computer or device. Cookies allow us to recognize your browser when you return to our sites, and to remember your login information. This helps us provide certain user features, better understand how you interact with our sites, and monitor aggregated usage. You can set your browser to detect some cookies, to stop accepting cookies, or to prompt you before accepting a cookie. To learn more about browser cookies, including how to manage or delete them, look in the Tools, Help, or similar section of your web browser.
By using our sites, you agree to the use of these tracking technologies.
Do Not Track Signals: Some web browsers may transmit “do not track” signals to the websites and other online services with which the browser communicates. There is no standard that governs what, if anything, websites should do when they receive these signals. We currently do not take action in response to these signals.
Third-Party Website Tracking
We do not serve targeted advertising; however, when you use the Internet, unaffiliated parties such as ad networks, web analytics companies, and social networking platforms may collect information about your online activities over time and across our and other websites. This information may be used to provide advertisements for products and services that may interest you, and those companies may use cookies, clear GIFs, and other tracking technologies. We do not track your activity across different websites or online services.
How We Share and Disclose Your Information
We do not sell or rent your information. We may use and disclose your personal information as described above and as follows:
If you create an account, we will indicate which portion of the information you provide will be made public and offer options for you to control how much information is disclosed. In cases where we share your information with third parties (e.g., your employer, as a part of an employee-matching program, or website analytics service provider), our Privacy Policy does not govern the privacy practices of such third parties, and we ask that you refer to their respective privacy policies for details on their use of your information.
How We Protect Your Information
Your privacy is important to us, and we use physical, technical, and administrative safeguards designed to preserve the security of your personal information and protect it from unauthorized use or disclosure. When you make a donation on our site, information about your donation is transmitted using secure socket layer technology (SSL) and payment information is tokenized so that it’s never stored on our servers. We store data in cloud-based environments that use firewalls and other industry-standard protections in an effort to prevent access from outside intruders. Access to data is limited to those individuals who need it in order to perform their business function and protected wherever possible by two-factor authentication. Although we use appropriate security measures once we have received your personal information, the transmission of data over the internet (including by email) is never completely secure.
How We Protect Children’s Privacy
Our Sites are not intended for children under 13 in any capacity or for children under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect or solicit information from anyone under the age of 13. In the event that we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under the age of 13, we will delete that information as soon as practicable from our server. Data Retention
We will retain user account information for as long as needed to provide our services, comply with our contractual or legal obligations, audit requirements, resolve disputes, and prevent abuse. We also retain deidentified, aggregate information about activity related to campaigns submitted and funded on our sites, to understand and gain insights into how schools are being supported through our sites. Links to Third-Party Websites
Our sites contain links to third-party websites, including social networking websites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third party’s website. We offer these links for your convenience, and the fact that we link to a website is not an endorsement or representation of our affiliation with that third party. These other websites may place their own cookies or other files on your computer, collect data, or solicit personal information from you. Our privacy policy does not apply to these third-party websites, and we encourage you to be aware of when you leave our Sites and to review the privacy policies of each website you choose to link to from our Sites. We are not responsible for content or privacy policies of third-party websites.
How You Can Access and Adjust Your Information
You may correct your account information at any time by logging into your online account and modifying your information on the dashboard and profile pages. You have the right to request access to the personal information that we record about you. You also have the right to request corrections, amendments, and deletions of any of your personal information in our possession, including information you may have provided to us as part of a Campaign submission. SYLCers may, at any time, access their campaign page to review, amend, or correct information provided about their campaign. If a SYLCer wishes to remove a photo or video that they have provided, either on their own behalf at info@sylc.gr.
Opt Out
If you have provided us with your information in order to receive updates about our sites, you may unsubscribe from those updates at any time through links provided in our emails, or through the email preferences tab in your account.
Updates to Our Privacy Policy
SYLC.it may modify this Privacy Policy from time to time. When changes are made, SYLC.it will indicate the modification change date in the “last updated” date at the bottom of that page. Your continued use of our website after a modification of our Privacy Policy indicates your consent to such modification.
If we make any material changes to the policy, we will also post a notice on the applicable site or notify account holders in an email sent to the email specified in your account profile and obtain any necessary consent in accordance with applicable laws.
